A person who holds valid travel documents from the following countries do not need to apply for a visa in advance of their arrival in South Africa for a stay of less than 90 days or when in transit to other countries.

African Union, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana,
Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France
Germany, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Liechtenstein
Luxemburg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay 
Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Spain, St Vincent & the Grenadines
Sweden, Switzerland

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Islands Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man and Virgin Islands, Republic of Ireland

Citizens of other countries need to apply for a South African visa prior to arrival in the country at a South African consulate or embassy.

Visas are not issued on arrival at South African ports of entry. Applicants arriving without visas will be refused entry into the country and placed on return flights in terms of legislation.

Applicants will need to hold a passport valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of the intended visit. Passports must contain at least 1 (one) unused page for entry/departure endorsements

The requirement for transit visas for passengers with onward travel plans is currently suspended.
